Advisement and Registration For Continuing Students
Please check the Academic Calendar for advisement and registration dates.
- The first step in participating in Priority Registration is to make an appointment with your advisor. You will need to do this yourself, usually by using a signup sheet on your advisor’s office door.
- You should already know your VIP ID and password from the last time you registered. If not, then click this link to reset these important numbers and store them in a safe place:
http://my.usca.edu/ - Log in to Self Service Aiken. After logging in, click on the Student tab, then the Registration tab, and finally, Registration Status. From here, you can see when your time ticket for spring registration and any holds that may prevent you from registering.
- Meet with your academic advisor before registering for classes.
- Register for classes. Once you can register (at any point after your scheduled time ticket), log in to Self Service Carolina, click on the Student tab, then the Registration tab, and then Add or Drop Classes. From here, you can also search for specific classes on the schedule.
Need help with registration? Contact a staff member in the Office of the Registrar located in Room 109/Penland Administration Building or (803) 641-3550.
Drop/Add and Section Changes
The deadlines for registration and other transactions can be found in our academic calendar.
For Students Taking Summer Classes
Because summer school is condensed, please note that you have a very limited amount of time to complete your transactions and determine if you need to drop a class later.
Registration For New Students
If you are attending USCA for the first time, you will first need to be admitted. Please go to our Admissions website and click the type of admissions that applies to you.
OFFICE OF ADMISSIONS
Transient Students
Students from other colleges or universities (outside the USC system) wishing to enroll at USCA to take courses they plan to transfer back to their home institution are considered transient students.
If you are coming to USCA as a transient student, please visit the Transient Admission page.
Faculty/Staff Tuition Assistance
Permanent staff and faculty who are eligible for tuition assistance should:
- Be admitted to the university through Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Studies.
- Request the Tuition Assistance Form, obtain the proper signatures, and return the form to the Human Resources Department for verification.
- Take the verified Tuition Assistance Form to the Registration Center on the first day of classes for that semester.
- Process the tuition bill in the Business Services Office. Note: Even though the tuition is free, the tuition bill still must be processed.
Because tuition is free, registration is based on availability and entered into the computer no earlier than the first day of classes. Do not ask to be registered early.
Registration for Senior Citizens
South Carolina residents who are at least 60 years old are eligible for the state’s free tuition program.
South Carolina state law (59-111-320) authorizes USCA to permit SC residents at least sixty years of age to attend classes without paying tuition on a space-available basis, provided that such persons meet admission and other standards deemed appropriate by the university.
Please note that we are only authorized to offer free tuition on a space-available basis. Therefore, you will be eligible to register for all courses on the first day of class. We cannot determine if space is available until that time.
Fees Not Included in Free Tuition
Application fees, technology fees, lab fees, matriculation fees, and program fees are not exempt and must be paid by the student.
Eligibility
You qualify for free tuition if:
- You are 60 years old or older
- You have been a South Carolina Resident for at least 12 months
- You are admitted to USCA
How to Apply
- Submit an Application. If you are not currently enrolled as a student at USCA, you will need to review the requirements and apply through the Office of Admissions. If you have any questions about the application process, call the Office of Admissions at (803) 641-3366. Applications and all supporting documents for the fall semester must be submitted by July 1 and for the spring semester by December 1.
- Receive your VIP ID and USC ID. Once accepted, you will receive these numbers in your acceptance packets. Please use these numbers to set up your Self-Service Carolina Account and your Student Email Account.
- Verify your Citizenship Status. You can check to see if your status has already been verified by reviewing it in the Student Profile section of Self-Service Carolina. If it has not been verified, you must submit the Citizenship Verification Form and appropriate documentation.
- Verify your SC Residency. Log onto Self Service Carolina and click on the Admissions tab to access and complete the SC Residency Certification. Once completed, the Residency Office will update your records. For questions concerning residency, please email [email protected].
- Have your immunization hold removed. All students born after 1956 are required to provide proof of immunization. You can find the Immunization Record Form here. If you have any questions about the Immunization Form, please email [email protected].
- Complete the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver Form. This form can be found here.
- Maintain active student status. It is your responsibility to maintain active status as a USCA student. If you miss a fall or spring semester, you will become inactive in the university’s system. You must re-apply for admission and pay the application fee before you complete the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver Form. Applications and all supporting documents for the fall semester must be submitted by July 1 and for the spring semester by December 1.
Registration
Registration for senior citizens is no earlier than the first day of classes because we are only authorized to offer free tuition on a space-available basis. We cannot determine if space is available until that time. If you wish to pay regular tuition for your classes, you may participate in early registration and should contact the Registrar's Office as soon as possible to make arrangements.
The Office of the Registrar will use the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver to complete your course registration.
