With a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at the University of South Carolina Aiken, you’ll join one of only 10 American Chemical Society nationally approved programs in South Carolina.

From inorganic and organic chemistry to physical and biochemistry, you’ll receive modern, relevant training that opens doors to graduate school or jobs in the Palmetto State and beyond when you choose a Bachelor of Science in chemistry degree at USCA.

Our alumni have an almost 100% employment rate within six months of graduation. Or, if you’d like to continue to study chemistry in graduate school, join alumni who are studying in top graduate programs and professional schools.

Program Highlights

As a USCA chemistry major, you’ll thrive in our American Chemical Society nationally approved program as you:

  • Benefit from a more personalized experience. Courses in our major often have 10 students or less. Compared with other programs, you’ll have more opportunities for in-depth discussions and personal attention from your instructors.
  • Find experiential learning and research experiences in cutting-edge facilities. As early as your second year, join faculty members and research everything from material synthesis and problems in energy production, to understanding a variety of types of reaction mechanisms. As a chemistry major, you’ll design your own experiments in our top-notch labs during higher-level lab courses. You may also join the USCA Chemistry Club and make new friends, travel to conferences, participate in community service, and more.

Course Highlights

If you’re interested in working in a chemistry-related field, the Bachelor of Science Chemistry degree program trains you in each of the Chemistry subdivisions, including analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic, and physical.

You can also choose to focus your BS in Chemistry in one of four concentrations to further prepare yourself for the future, including:

  • General Chemistry, which covers each of chemistry’s subdivisions, from analytical to physical chemistry, and allows for the most flexibility in courses.
  • Biochemistry, which delves into the biological applications of chemistry with additional biology courses.
  • Engineering, which provides you with a solid foundation to work in environments with engineers through engineering and math courses.
  • Computational Chemistry, which explores the ways in which computer modeling can enhance the understanding of chemical and biochemical processes through additional math and computer science courses.
