The text of this policy is concerned with the procedures and responsibilities associated with the institution's response to instances of student behavior where there is reason to assume the conduct may be caused by psychological or mental health reasons.

I. Policy

The USCA policy is to assess the individual student's problem behavior.  No category of behavior (i.e. suicide attempts, drug ingestion, episodes of acute anxiety) is automatically dealt with as an adequate basis for administrative action.

II. Procedure

a.  Requests for information or referrals should be made directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Services, the administrative coordinator of this policy.

b.  Each student's questionable behavior will be assessed in an evaluation interview with the Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Services or designee, and an additional interview will be scheduled with the Director of the Counseling Center if deemed necessary by the Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Services.

c.  Based on the results of the interview(s), the Vice Chancellor will determine appropriate action, which could include:

  • referral for evaluation
  • referral to Judicial Affairs
  • voluntary and/or involuntary withdrawal
  • other administrative action warranted by the individual situation
