USCA to host free cybersecurity training for educational leaders on Aug. 5

The online course “Cybersecurity for Educational Leaders” will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, starting at 8 a.m. EST.
Aiken, SC – June 9, 2025 — The University of South Carolina Aiken (USCA), in partnership with CyberSC, is proud to host a one-day, no-cost virtual training course titled “Cybersecurity for Educational Leaders” on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
This live, instructor-led course is part of a nationally recognized series provided by the National Cybersecurity Preparedness Consortium (NCPC) and developed by the Criminal Justice Institute, University of Arkansas System, with support from the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Center for Infrastructure Assurance & Security.
The training is designed specifically for school administrators, higher education professionals, IT staff, and other decision-makers in the education sector. This awareness-level, non-technical course empowers participants to understand and address cybersecurity threats, reduce risks of data breaches, meet compliance requirements, and safeguard sensitive student and staff information.
“As cybersecurity threats continue to rise across all sectors, this course provides a critical foundation for those responsible for the protection of educational institutions,” said Tom Scott, workforce development lead at USCA. “We are thrilled to help bring this essential training opportunity to educators across South Carolina and beyond.”
The course has no prerequisites, but participants must be employed by or have decision-making responsibilities in public or private K-12 schools or higher education institutions. The training is fully funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through FEMA’s National Training and Education Division, making it free to attend.
This training supports USCA’s Center for Cyber Initiatives and Awareness (CCIA) mission to enhance cybersecurity education, workforce development, and community outreach. By hosting the course, CCIA equips educators and leaders to protect sensitive data and promote cyber awareness, bridging national resources with local impact.
