Today’s wealth of technology has introduced extraordinary convenience and efficiency to our campus.  It is important for us to remember that this same technology introduces many threats as well.  Modern cyber threats can jeopardize our financial health, our children’s safety or even the future of our university.

It is our duty as computer users to learn more about the threats of computing.  It is also our responsibility to take that knowledge and use it to better protect ourselves, those we care about and those whose information we safeguard here at USC Aiken.

I am pleased to announce a new resource that will allow us to learn about these topics and how to incorporate security awareness knowledge into our daily lives.  The university has made SANS’ Securing the Human awareness training available to all full-time faculty and staff.  The training consists of a series of short video modules.  The library of videos covers various topics, from safe use of social networks to protecting your children online.  There are 44 short video modules to choose from.

To take advantage of this service, visit and login.  You will need to know your USC-Columbia network username and password.  If you have any problems or questions in general, please do not hesitate to contact our Helpdesk.  From an on-campus phone, simply dial HELP.  From off-campus, dial (803) 641-3391.  The Helpdesk can also be reached by e-mail at

I hope you will take advantage of this time to review some of the modules that are the most pertinent to you.
