Biography

Roy Seeger has been the faculty advisor for Broken Ink since 2015-16 and has seen Broken Ink garner a Pinnacle Award in 2018, a prestigious national award given each year to the best literary arts journal. 

Roy is a Senior English Instructor who teaches several classes in the USCA’s BFA in Creative Writing, including Intro to Creative Writing, Poetry Workshop, Studies in Editing and Publishing, and Studies in Poetic Forms. His poetry collections include The Boy whose Hands were Birds (Main Street Rag 2008) and Prayerbook for the Midwestern Agnostic (Main Street Rag 2013). He is currently working on a new poetry collection, “Hypothetical Distances of the Taxidermied Heart.”

Aside from his academic and creative pursuits, Roy is a mediocre gardener. He is also obsessed with streaming series that are based on Graphic Novels—even in his free time, he is obsessed with narrative structures!

Biography

Samantha started working as a general staff member with Broken Ink in the spring of 2021. She is an Army veteran, a senior Creative Writing major with a minor in Literature, editor in chief at Broken Ink, editor in chief at The Town Square A Literary Magazine, and has extensive experience working as a student success advocate in The Office of Veteran and Military Student Success at the USC Aiken. A direct reflection of her time in service, Samantha does her best to provide an intrinsic space for the creative community to express itself.

This fundamental experience has engrained in her the importance of collaborative resources within the world of literature and the importance of providing crucial support to artists and writers of all kinds in the community. Samantha also enjoys reading, writing, and listening to an eclectic array of music.

Biography

Newly recruited during the fall of 2023, Kylie joined Broken Ink’s staff to fill the role of literary arts editor for the coming spring’s volume of the magazine. Acting as literary editor, she manages literary submissions and assists the other editors with any literary-oriented tasks.

Kylie is currently a junior English Literature major with a minor in Psychology. Her time is consumed by her major, as it is also her passion. She spends most of her time reading classical literature and writing short essays and poetry for her own enjoyment. After graduating in the fall of 2024, her goal is to continue with her education by working towards her Master of Arts (MA). In the future, she hopes to work in publishing so that she may help others get their literary works into the world, as well as her own.

Biography

Ravyn Mitchell has been a member of Broken Ink since the fall of 2022. She started off as a member who attended meetings occasionally to joining the magazine full time as the Art Editor in fall of 2023. This position requires Ravyn to manage art submissions for the Broken Ink’s catalogue, as well as help other staff as needed.

Ravyn is currently a senior majoring in Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design. She enjoys different types of art, such as the traditional art of painting and drawing, crafting with paper and wood materials, photography, and animation. Outside of the arts, she likes to hang out with friends and family, watch movies and YouTube, relax, and exercise in order to stay fit. Ravyn will be graduating from USC Aiken in December of 2023. After graduating she will be able to find freelance work in her chosen field. This is something she looks forward to, especially after investing her time in several years of hard work to ensure she achieves her goal.

Biography

Wyatt L. Spann has been the Music Editor for Broken Ink since 2023. He is responsible for soliciting and curating audio submissions, running audio and visual equipment for events, overseeing the magazine's YouTube presence, and advocating for the promotion of music in the magazine. He is currently a senior in high school, dual-enrolled as a student of Aiken Scholars Academy, and he intends to major in Clinical Psychology and Audio Technology after graduating. Outside of Broken Ink, he leads Cedar Creek West's teen worship band and works as a backstage assistant at the Etherredge Center, specializing in audio equipment. He is a multi-instrumentalist and music producer on his own time and has maintained a commitment to creating and releasing music since 2019. With influences including experimental rock, hip-hop, folk, and reggae, he currently works with a tight collective of local young artists in an effort to foster a more radically creative and inspiring local music community.

Biography

Charlize, also known as Charlie, has been a member of Broken Ink since fall 2022. They were the Art Editor during the publishing of the 55th volume in the spring of 2023 and have now assumed the position of layout editor for the next volume.

As the layout editor, Charlie takes care of creating flyers for any events that are being held by Broken Ink, as well as any information being communicated about the submission deadlines. They work closely with the editorial staff in an effort to create the aesthetic and layout for the magazine. They’re currently an art major and spend most of their time painting, sculpting, and creating digital and traditional artworks.

Biography

Caitlin is the Events Coordinator for Broken Ink. They have been a member of Broken Ink since the spring of 2022 and made the move to managing events in the fall of 2023. Although they are a senior Biology major here at USC Aiken, they have a strong passion for the arts. They have been drawing realism and painting landscapes since they could remember and have recently found an interest in drawing live figures.

In addition to their love for art, they are currently in a microbiological research laboratory and aspire to become a cardiothoracic surgeon. They spend their free time watching surgery videos, playing the guitar, and listening to nu-metal rock.

Biography

Chloe has been a member of Broken Ink since the fall of 2022. She joined as the Social Media Coordinator and continues to hold that position currently.

Chloe is a Communication and Emerging Media major with a minor in Studio Art. She has had a knack for all things art since childhood and loves the fact that she is able to share with everyone at USC Aiken through Broken Ink. Her favorite art form is photography, but she also has a passion for music. She wants to combine these two passions by one day being a concert photographer.
