Background Information

The USC Aiken School of Business Administration (SOBA) is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the hallmark of excellence in business education. Only 5% of the world’s schools of businesses can claim that as a point of pride. Reflecting the university’s culture of commitment to community partnerships, the School of Business Administration takes as its motto “Educating through Engagement.

Professors in the USC Aiken School of Business Administration for years have contractually provided economic analysis to businesses and organizations throughout South Carolina. Sample projects have ranged from production of numerous Regional Economic Benchmarking Reports for Aiken County conducted for the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of Aiken, Edgefield, and Saluda Counties to an economic impact study of the Savannah River Site on five adjacent counties in South Carolina and Georgia.

Other sample projects include assessment of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Flow Down to Local Community conducted for Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, the economic impact of Aiken Preparatory School on the local economy, and a research study conducted for the South Carolina chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. No project has been too large or too small for SOBA. This work underscores the value that local and regional business leaders place on evaluations conducted by SOBA.

The purpose of establishing the Pacer Center for Excellence in Business Research and Entrepreneurship (Pacer Center) is to use the School of Business Administration’s expertise in the field of economics, finance, accounting, marketing, management, and data analytics to enhance local, regional, and national economy while engaging students in business research and experience.

Mission of Pacer Center

The Pacer Center for Excellence in Business Research and Entrepreneurship will provide data-driven, unbiased, rigorous research that will enhance the lives of South Carolinians, the United States, and the world. About the Entrepreneurship Center

The Entrepreneurship Center is the brainchild of UofSC Aiken's Rebecca Barnwell and Mary Couls who pitched the idea at the university's first Shark 'Preneur competition in 2018. The center is a 500 sf room located in the School of Business and Education building.

Aspiring entrepreneurs can research and discuss their ideas and receive real life business models and expert advice.

In addition to her duties as the university's 2020-2021 Executive-in-Residence, Dr. Liz Stewart consults with UofSC Aiken students, as well as faculty, staff and community members who are considering becoming an entrepreneur. In addition, the facility will soon have a curriculum that will assist with start-up businesses, as well as those businesses that need a 'refresh' or holistic assessment.

Ashley and Casey started Board In, a specialized charcuterie business in Aiken. While they had a passion for the business, it was still a 'weekend shop' until Dr. Stewart assisted the ladies with the A-Z's of entrepreneurship. "I can't believe the transformation of their business in a few months" shared Liz. "The small shop that Casey and Ashley started is now a thriving business in Aiken!"

Dr. Stewart will be offering one-on-one meetings as well as some virtual conferences throughout the year. Learn more about those by reading below. For more information, please email Dr. Stewart at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

E-Series 2021

The E-Series is a sequence of educational Zoom seminars aimed to help the first-time entrepreneur or a business owner who wants to expand and diversify his/her business.

Dr. Liz Stewart is the university’s Executive in Residence for the School of Business Administration. She is the president of Stewart and Associates, Inc., a management, training, and survey-consulting firm, which focuses on helping entrepreneurs.

There was overwhelming interest when she offered a pilot entrepreneurship session in the 2020 Fall Semester. The 2021 Spring Series launched in January and offers students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members engagement opportunities for entrepreneurs and their businesses. It will also align with the overall mission and strategic plan for UofSC Aiken’s School of Business Administration.
