Kathryn McGlynn, Team Player Committed to Students’ Success, Earns Monthly Honor
September 12, 2016
Kathryn McGlynn, University of South Carolina Aiken’s coordinator of Experiential Education and Employer Relations in the Office of Career Services, earned Campus Citizen of the Month honors for September.
"Kathryn has only been with the university for a little over a year, yet her impact has already been felt in the Office of Career Services and across campus,” said her supervisor, Corey Feraldi.
He says her dedication and ability to build relationships benefit students, employers and the university at large. During her short tenure, McGlynn has increased employer and student contacts and boosted participation in the annual spring career fair on campus.
Additionally, as she explores innovative ways to link employers with USC Aiken students, she has increased the number of internship opportunities.
"One example is the group she formed with representatives from the academic departments to share ideas and have a more consistent and systemized process for campus internships," Feraldi said. "They humorously title themselves the CIA for Campus Internship Association."
"Kathryn’s sense of humor and personality make working with her a fun and enjoyable experience."
In addition to her relationship building acumen, she is also dedicated to the success of each student – and often stays late to help students and employers find the best fit.
"She takes time to recognize and celebrate student and graduate accomplishments, as well as reach out to those individuals who need some extra assistance," according to Feraldi.
USC Aiken, a comprehensive university in the University of South Carolina system, offers undergraduate and master’s degrees to approximately 3,500 students in 50 programs of study. USC Aiken is ranked the #1 public regional college in the South by U.S. News & World Report’s guide "America’s Best Colleges." The 2016 distinction marks USC Aiken’s 18th consecutive ranking among the top three in this category and its eleventh time in first place.
