Community Impact


USC Aiken continues to join with P-12 education and Aiken Technical College to become a unified voice for education in the Aiken community. Examples of these outreach programs include:

  • Community-wide events for Aiken County school teachers held on the USCA campus
  • Developing and maintaining relationship with local middle and elementary schools in an effort to engage these students at a critical point in their education through activities that bring them together with our students, faculty, and staff

In addition, the University sponsors and houses several programs and facilities for members of the Aiken community, including:

Etherredge Center

  • Contains a 687-seat theatre well-known for its acoustic quality and large number of cultural events

Conference Center and Continuing Education

  • Conference Center offers complete conference services and facilities to meet the needs of large or small groups
  • Continuing Education offers professional development courses and custom-designed training programs

Ruth Patrick Science Education Center and DuPont Planetarium

  • Purpose is to infuse a love for learning science, mathematics, and technology with a hands-on approach to teaching
  • Since its opening, over 925,000 people have taken part in RPSEC programs
  • A cooperative effort between USC Aiken, businesses, and schools in the Central Savannah River Area
  • Planetarium shows are offered to local school groups and the general public
  • Since its opening, the Planetarium has hosted over 129,000 visitors

Convocation Center

  • The largest gathering place in Aiken County, accommodating the University's graduation ceremonies and other major events as well as community meetings and conferences

 Small Business Development Center

  • Provides assistance to small businesses as part of the SBDC Consortium of South Carolina 
  • SBDC consultants meet with small business owners on a one-on-one basis to analyze problems and provide advice

McGrath Computer Learning Center & Academy for Lifelong Learning

  • Academy offers monthly programs, short courses, special events, and trips for mature adults who seek fellowship and entertainment within an academic environment
  • McGrath Computer Learning Center is a computer training program open to individuals of at least 50 years of age

Wellness Center

  • Offers a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, a joint venture with Aiken Regional Medical Centers' Heart Center, that is statecertified and focuses on education and exercise
  • Offers a Seniors Exercise Program for those 60 and over that is supervised by trained professionals
  • Natatorium located in the Student Activities Center
